Reverend Julie Randels Perry taught special needs students in the public schools for fifteen years before being called to the ministry. The call itself came suddenly and was earthshaking for her, but its full meaning and implications for her life would only evolve over time. Julie entered Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond as a M.Div. student in 2005. She graduated in 2009, after many wonderfully enriching classes and practical ministry experiences, which included working with the homeless at the Salvation Army in Charlottesville and completing a year as a full time chaplain resident at UVA Medical Center.
Upon her graduation from BTSR, Julie received a call to serve as the full time chaplain at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, in Troy, VA. She was ordained by her home church, Broadus Memorial Baptist in Charlottesville, in July, 2009, and began ministry at FCCW in September of that year. Julie states that serving as a prison chaplain has been the most challenging but also most rewarding experience of her life! She will be entering the doctoral program at BTSR in the fall of 2012, where her studies will directly tie in with and support her work at the prison.
Julie resides in Charlottesville with her husband, Lee, who is a surgical technician at UVA Medical Center. They have two grown children, Jennie and Daniel.
